Topic: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

Alright, I'm aware that I promised earlier today to post links to some tools that people appear to be needing.. but I haven't found the time.
I expect to be home again on Monday, and I'll try my best to do some extensive research on the issue and post some up to date links to all the relevant software that you might need for modding and such. If not on Monday, then I will definitely have it all by next weekend. Just be patient wink

Meanwhile, post here what sort of tools you need, so that I'll know what to search for.

See you soon big_smile

[Edit]
The old tools thread appears to be, well, too old wink

[The actual toolbox]
Blizzard's WC3 Art Tools for 3D Studio Max-- http://www.battle.net/war3/files/
MDX importer for 3D Studio Max-- http://www.infoceptor.com/files/war3/MDXimporter.zip
MDX Text Editor-- http://www.blizzpub.net/war3/worldedito … Editor.exe
WC3 Image Extractor II-- http://www.blizzpub.net/war3/worldedito … ctorii.zip
WC3 Explorer-- http://www.blizzpub.net/war3/worldedito … orer01.zip
(Just to set the record straight-- WC3 Explorer is just about everything you'll ever need and, aside from being slightly heavy when messing with models, is the best MPQ tool ever released IMHO.. however, it can't convert BLPs sad which is what WC3 Image Extractor II is for)

WarCraft3 Viewer-- http://www.wc3sear.ch/files/downloads.php?ID=11&l=6
Please notice that the above program is the best MPQ program ever. I mean it. It owns. I have no idea how it took me so long to hear about it. Go get it. Right now. Go!!!

JASS guides, anyone?-- The best I found were the following:
http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread. … post520132 is the basic stuff you need to know (or so it says), and
http://jass.sourceforge.net/doc/ should be most of everything there is to know.

Now, you people probably also wanted some Enhanced WE and a Map Protector.. I'll work on getting those big_smile

Edited By Crast - fixed the links, you need to use the http urls

Too many of them.. many aren't very good. My intention in this thread is to list the good, efficient tools.

Also, some tools aren't available there, I think...

I fixed the links on the tools that magis had uploaded, they were pointing to the wrong place

magis, when you upload stuff, you need to link them to http://www.blizzpub.net/war3/worldeditor

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

Is there any tool (im sure it doesnt exist) that can make custom voices from main characters voices in the game? Example: Making a sound file of Arthas' voice saying something you want him to say. (For a cinematic dialouge of course.) I don't have voices in my campaign and it makes it feel really empty.

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

Please refer to the game's credits.
If such an option were effectively possible, the list of sound actors would be devastatingly shorter.

Most people have their own voice though, try applying yours to some characters, and feel free to share the results wink

(Worst case scenario, I can try to find you that old TillerMaN Talker, with lots of shit he said on some game he narrated...)

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

I wouldn't mind doing the voices if I had better equipment. I would want effects and stuff. Not just my natural voice. And I don't have anything good to record my voice on except a broken mic and sound recorder that comes with windows.

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

Today I've downloaded at least eight programs so I could make/edit my own WarCraft III units...

The only one I figured out somehow was the one that Sir~Magis~Returns recommended, the Warcraft 3 Viewer v2.3c.

But I have no f***ing idea of how to actually edit the Chaos Grunt that I am now looking at. I can turn him around and change the team color, but editing him? Ain't there suposed to be some brush tools around here somewhere?

And Whorror, without a mic it is impossible to make new dialogues... tongue

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

Hmmm, missed a post tongue

None of those tools actually lets you edit skins; that's pure graphics. What the tools can let you do is extract the original skins (making a new skin for a Blizzard model is practically impossible for anyone who isn't a real professional, I'm afraid), but you need Photoshop or Paintshop Pro (or something) to edit those skins.
Afterwards, you just import the skins of your choice into your map, and voila! Reskinned units!

One of those proggies up there (the Viewer, probably) is far superior to all others by letting you actually view your skin on the unit without having to mess around with the actual game, which is a real time saver.

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

So the Warcraft III Explorer lets us view all the files - Are there any programs that will let a person edit them, such as the AI files and so on?

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

There are various programs for editing things...
As for AI files, I don't know what these are, and I suppose that they're way too difficult to edit, at any rate.

Re: Toolbox-- Now With Tools Inside!

I suggest adding 3d Blender (it's one of the best of it's kind for creating 3D animated models)
