I don't know why you post the screenshot gallery when people play WC3 custom maps now purely for the gameplay factor. If you want to market your maps the best way would be to give a list or detailed description of the gameplay elements and why they would be fun to play. Seeing the SS's from a game released so many years ago alone gives no incentive for caring.

Screenshots are mostly to show what people will 'experience' in SP world. For MP maps I can see people not getting bothered about looks but gameplay (eg. Dota), but in SP both matter.

So I post shots for people who are interested in detailed worlds (considering the fact that details in my maps come with similar ambience effects) when playing an RPG, not for those who want gameplay only.

A well done and detailed terrain says one of two things:
1. They're good at terraining/had someone terrain for them, but everything else is boring.
2. They put in the time to detail their terrain and likely put in time to detail the rest of the map.

Bad terrains destroy maps. Would Wow be half as impressive if npc names were all generic and boring? If the instances were monotone and the walls were bare? Gameplay is not enough. The environment is part of the UI. If the terrain is immersive, then the game will be more immersive. Why do people make triggered spells that do nothing but add effects to base spells? Why are people drawn in by these spells? They immerse you in a place separate from others.

Unfortunately, I tend not to play war3 in general anymore, though I always see your threads, and am impressed, at TWC.

Thanks. Unfortunately, most modders (wc3) choose to overlook the level design in the maps, and when half of the fanbase is used to the 'regular' terrain, they tend NOT to complain about that aspect of the game/mod at all.

Simply put, Wc3 can be made to look as good as any other RPG (top-down) game when some changes (more polies is a different matter). Working on terrainf or Wc3 has helped me a lot. I am actually working on my own Indie (read = commerical + standalone game) title which is actually based on one of the mods for wc3 (gameplay type). big_smile

Well people went there for reasons other than npc names and environment detail. As soon as alternatives came out almost everyone wanted to stop going asap.
