Topic: Bionic's first goodbye thread in 5 years

***TL;DR WARNING***

It’s been a long enough time coming, but I must finally say goodbye for now.  I’ve been hanging around this site for about five and a half years now (wow…), and must let it come to a close.   I can hardly believe it when I see that I’ve had nearly 9000 posts and not to mention all those posts that didn’t count in VIP!  In retrospect, I can’t help but think of all the time I’ve lost.

And I know by leaving now that I’m really not losing all that much, as my activity here has lessened more and more as time goes on.  I was drawn here because of WC3 and never really held too strong of a eRelationship with anybody that I didn’t play on BNet with.  The more and more the site moved away from the game the less interest I had in posting, but I still killed a good amount of time on the site.  This was the first forum I’d registered on and though nowadays I’m not as active here, there are several non-gaming sites that I’m heavily active on, as much so as I once was here.

As many of you may already know, about two years ago I enlisted in the US Air Force and have been on the move since.  This was the first step of getting off my ass and doing something worthwhile with my life.  I spent a year stationed in Korea and now I’m stationed in England.  Coming up shortly, I’ll be going elsewhere for a while where I won’t have access to things such as forums or myspace.  I’m sure I don’t need to spell that out any further; you guys can put two and two together and understand why I won’t elaborate any more on that.  Regardless, I need to take this time as an opportunity to trim the fat out of my life.  I need to cut out these unproductive timesinks that I always find myself falling into and make more time in my life for more important things such as school, relationships, and the sun.

Ever make a New Years Resolution that you didn’t keep?  It’s hard to make a lifestyle change when your life is staying the same.  Get taken out of your environment and you can do anything that you want.   When I first enlisted I made a short list of small things that I wanted to be better in my life and in just over six weeks of living in a controlled environment (bootcamp), I was able to achieve many of them.  Before I enlisted I would drink about a liter and a half of Pepsi a day.  It’s sickening for me to think about it now.  I decided that I wasn’t going to drink soda anymore and I haven’t touched it since.   One thing I was not able to achieve in that time was pulling myself away from the mindless lures of internet timesinks.  Translate weeks into months and I’m ready to give it another chance.  This time I think I can make it stick.

And by the way, I know these goodbye posts are completely useless, but I just wanted to make it to give myself a mental reminder.

I won't be offline forever, if anybody ever wants to contact me, add me on myspace:  /Zxcccccccccccc

alright, quadruple post.   apparently I can't use ... or ' without it cutting off everything after it.  all apostrophes are now ?

Re: Bionic's first goodbye thread in 5 years

Dude, just cut back your time online. You dont have to be french and quit on us. SC2? Hello? Dude, SC2 will be huge and it should bring back pub activity. We have a lot of projects related to SC2 coming down the pipe. So considering WOW is a life stealer, having a new rts should bring some new blood and activity to this website.

So anyways, if you cut back your hours to a weekly or biweekly thing, that's cool I understand. I've been swamped by school, life, and other shit. But I at least check the site like once or twice a day, but that only takes me 5 minutes. Just like checking CNN or something.

Anyways, I never really talked to you that much, but I think your posts are as funny as hell and it would sadden me if we lost another old school pub brother.

Re: Bionic's first goodbye thread in 5 years

Ya I agree with jordan.  If you find yourself spending too much time online then just cut back a bit, you don't need to totally eliminate the internet from your life to be happy and productive.

If this is about redefining who you are then maybe that is different...but still I personally am not sure why you would feel the need to totally block the internet out of your life.

If you are thinking about "useless timesinks" then what is your definition of time well spent?  People often want to give excuses/feel bad for spending a lot of time on the internet, but really, why should you?  (unless you spend so much time that it is physically unhealthy or something)  Why do you need to give excuses for something you enjoy doing?  Excuses (a product of feeling bad about spending time on the internet) are typically for trying to justify some kind of behavior, or making apologies for it.  So, why should you feel bad about spending any time on the internet at all?  If you feel your time woudl be better spent somewhere else then OK, but surely that doesn't necessarily call for the extreme behavior swing of quitting the internet cold turkey, unless you feel bad for spending that much time on the internet, which is a point I already addressed.

And, ahem, SC2....DUDE.

Where the fuck have you been and are you coming back??

I'm a full-time student with a full-time job.  The only times I ever get online are to write papers or to do research.  I might send an email every now and then, or check up on FaceBook, but I just don't have the time I used to.  I certainly don't have the time to play games.  Haha, not that I ever really played WC3 to begin with.  smile

I was working yesterday when I overheard one of my coworkers mention a guild they were in for WC3.  It was a sign.  That and all the commercials that have been on TV these days.  I thought I'd stop in and see what was new around here.  Haha, and surprisingly, there are a lot of familiar faces.

I might stick around for awhile.  However, I make no promises.  smile

And what happened to the cartoon cat icon you had?!  For the life of me, I can't remember what his name was.  Without him, it's just not the same...

Of course, I have a bouncing elephant now, so I don't have much room to talk.  smile

Wasn't it...

Bill the Cat  from Bloom County?  Though that's not the exact picture.

And to get this thread back on track....

Bionic, I admire your ability to refocus your life like that.   Whatever you end up choosing, it seems like you've put a good amount of thought towards it, and so long as you're doing it for yourself, not doing it because someone or society implied you should, then it's a good one.    People change however, and your opinions may.   If you change your mind after a while away, don't kick yourself for it.  It's not a relapse, it's your choice.   In either case, we will miss you around here, and if you ever decide to come back, we'll likely still be around.   And everyone else?   They probably will too.

As to what wc3kid said, I fully expect that dancing banana to show up one day again.   Sus/Unsus, maybe not.   But as Lindsey said, they all come back.
