Re: computer speakers
I'm currently rather happy with a $26 2.1 set of altec lansings, after trying a $50 logitech and a $75 creative set from a local store Don't know the model number, they appear not to be on newegg anymore, and I'm not home atm. The only downside to the ones I have is that the sound is very 'directional' e.g. you have to point them right at you, they don't have a good output cone. My old ones (also Altec Lansing) were much much better in terms of directionality.
I think computer speakers are more or less hit & miss, since they all target different listening preferences (I prefer clean sounding to bassy) Try to get a speaker system with separate tweeter and mids, rather than two drivers (or more) of the exact same size. which a lot of the fancy-looking computer speakers seem to do. The sound quality difference will be rather apparent.
For an example of something with separate mids and tweeters: this does except don't get that one specifically since the reviews says it gets a lot of interference :\
