i've listened to a lot of newer stuff recently..notable mentions!

mogwai : mr. beast
-great stuff, flows really well.

calexico : garden ruin
-rather good, some tracks are a bit meh but they could grow

the appleseed cast : peregrine
-what you'd expect. poppy but driving ambient indie (haha?)

the glass family : sleep inside this wheel
-got it completely because of the salinger reference that is their name, and i was pleasently surprised. i'm usually not a fan of indie pop like this, but they are really cool

wilco : being there 1/2
just good stuff..wish their more recent albums were more like this. ghost is too hard to listen to

I just downloaded the David Bowie discography minus the three cds I already had, Velvet Underground and Nico and Loaded, and then Fun House and Raw Power by Iggy Pop and the Stooges

Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm

Kamelot - Ghost Opera.
For those of you that don't know, Kamelot is a power/progressive metal band that is heavily influenced by orchestral music, so there's a lot of strings, brass etc in the background - pretty full on scores at some points with lots of harmonies, many parts doing different things etc.
Supposed to be released 1 June, but we can all thank the music industry pirates for their valiant efforts. At first listen I didn't reaaaly know quite what to think of it after listening to the Black Halo (possibly one of my favourite albums - amazing score writing, melodies, rhythms and lyrics) so it's pretty hard to compare. After listening to the thing about 5 or 6 times in the last day it's grown on me and there's a lot happening in the orchestral parts that's not quite as obvious as that in Kamelot's earlier works. As with a fair bit of Kamelot, you have to listen to it a fair bit to let it grow on you before you appreciate what's happening in the music.

Fans of Dream Theater - you should be ashamed if you haven't heard of Kamelot - check out The Black Halo, and then move on to Epica and The Fourth Legacy if you want to check them out, IMO the most accessible albums.
