Topic: don't you just wish SoaD would have stayed together?

I mean really, this Scars on Broadway album is okay, but nothing great. Same for Serj's solo album effort. I would be much more satisfied with another System album but oh well. Maybe in a couple of years? I know this thread is kind of random, but I just dl'ed SoB and this was what I was thinking about.

although admittedly I have only listened to half of this album so far, lol.

i've only heard a song each from those two, and i agree based on what i've heard anyway. not really all that impressive =/

you gotta wonder though, do they really have it in them to do anything all that good and original anymore?

I like the SoB album a lot.  All the tracks sound similar, but good.  I didn't really listen to Serj's that much.

ya what the fuck is up woth SoaD anyway.  Last I had heard, they said they arent broken up, just split up and releasing music separately....?  Wtf.

Listen to Enter the Chicken by Buckethead & Friends. It's a cooperative between Serj and Buckethead. I dunno if this was after SoaD stopped making shit together, but if it was it was totally worth it because that album kicks all kinds of ass.

This is the type of stuff people who are married say when they are practically divorced but not official because of kids.

Are they thinking of the children?

Wait, you guys didn't even give it a proper run before you made a judgment? That and besides, my favourite tunes nowadays, are the ones I hated when I first listened to them, but they grow on you. I didn't like Elect the Dead or Scars on Broadway at first but they really both grow on you. Serj has a few vids out which make the experience that much more enjoyable too.
3005, Universe, Babylon and Stoner-Hate are all great tracks, have a listen to those ones, it's pretty hard for a SoaD fan to dislike them after you give them a couple of listens.

As a side-point though, I find it interesting be able to contrast the two once they've split: Serj's album is completely held up on his vocals (don't get ever boring imo) and perhaps his piano work (features in most songs) - Unthinking Majority has some cool parts. Scars on the other hand blows Elect the Dead of the water in terms of sheer guitar-work and riffs, not surprising really considering it's Daron. But in terms of what I've seen from Daron, none of it is really groundbreakingly different to what he's done in System (not even 'Chemicals' which is pretty out-there). Not saying it's a bad thing at all, but if anything from what it appears to me is that this split liberated Serj more than Daron. Some of the songs on Elect the Dead would be completely out of place on a System album, Scars stuff - not so much.
On that point, also interesting to see 8/12 of Serj's Tracks, perhaps even more that are thematically based on his politics... Scars on the Other hand... maybe Babylon, but that's it really.
