Re: any of you buying Street Fighter 4?

or it's nice having something up to date in a genre you're pretty die hard about.

i should say this mostly about the SF series, as we haven't had a real update in a long while. it's kind of a dying genre i guess as innovation or change is very small =/ my justification for the extra spending is that i will play the shit out of it with more than just sf4, or other fighting games for that matter.

Aren't fighters a pretty outdated genre, have they really changed so much since 15 years ago that they're worth dropping all this money on for a new 100$ stick etc.
(I'm not trolling this is a real question, i just don't quite understand the appeal.)

2D fighters are kind of like War3 tower defense maps:
They all share a few basic ideas, but the execution details vary slightly.
Newer games tend to build on the older ones, usually adding extra layers of complexity to allow for more "skillful" play.  (With that said, SF4 is supposed to be a "return to the roots" game, where they scale back the complexity somewhat.)
To an extent, you're forced to play the latest iteration of the game because that's what everyone else is playing, and you want to play against them.

Enjoy.

I'm really thinking of getting this now or not logging on to Xbox Live. Everytime I see like 20 friends playing SF4, it makes me want to go and buy it immediately and be reminded how much I suck at it.

But then I remember that I just bought The Lost and Damned and should focus on that. BTW TLAD is so much better than what I played of Nico's boring story. I'm actually having fun and interested with the story.

Re: any of you buying Street Fighter 4?

Seeing the majority of my friends list made me go out and buy it.

Re: any of you buying Street Fighter 4?

I was thinking about getting this then I started thinking about it in terms of arcade games. If this were a 50c arcade game I would have to play(and gameover) it 130 times to really justify the purchase. I don't play most of my games that much so there is no way I could motivate myself to get that much play out of a game that I'm not particularly crazy about anyway.

Just WoW raids. =-[

and it's probably at least a dollar in the arcade! =P

Re: any of you buying Street Fighter 4?

I see WoW as more of a movie-type expenditure. If I play 6 hours a month then I have made the subscription worth it. Even if it is a dollar to play in an arcade, I don't see myself playing enough to get 65 gameovers.

Too pro for that.

Re: any of you buying Street Fighter 4?

I think I'm going to go the lame route and attempt to master Sagat to fight off all the fireeball spamming homos. 9 out of 10 fights online are against Ryu/Ken. Most of them don't spam any of their moves but it's tiring of going against the same guys over and over.

I got a little break yesterday. Someone picked Fei Long. But I haven't gone against a Fei Long ever so I got my butt stomped. I did better against the good Ryu/Ken users.

I'd love to get good with Vega or El Fuerte to embarrass people with those guys. Supposedly they are the lowest on most charts out there displaying tiers.

i was over at a friends house playing it today, a friend of his was just running through all those faggy ken/ryu opponents with zangief. his grabs are retarded easy to pull of in sf4.

Tiers mean shit unless your a professional player and even then they still mean shit because SF4 is pretty damned balanced and their are amazing Vega/Feurte players.

I personally use both of them as my mains.  Vega is my main main though.

If you want to game hit me up on XBL.. MINI Pez is my GT.

Re: any of you buying Street Fighter 4?

damn all this talk about characters makes me remember the old days of my ehonda/blanka arcade pwnage.

Too bad I have no xbox.

Well knows he who uses to consider, that our faith and knowledge thrives by exercise, as well as our limbs and complexion. Truth is compared in Scripture to a streaming fountain; if her waters flow not in a perpetual progression, they sicken into a muddy pool of conformity and tradition. A man may be a heretic in the truth; and if he believe things only because his pastor says so, or the Assembly so determines, without knowing other reason, though his belief be true, yet the very truth he holds becomes his heresy.
