Topic: non-FPS on 360

I'm actually feeling quite a bit drawn towards Halo Wars for the simple fact that it's not a FPS.  Most of the games on the 360 are FPS or a derivative there of... 3rd person, or first person... stabber.... like Assassin's Creed... FP something.

So I realized that this is probably due to my limited experience and thought I'd ask what other games people enjoy that are on the 360 that break the mold.  I'm not that interested in sports games and I get bored of most racing games pretty quick.

If Kevin Costner were a super hero, his super power would be the ability to always find a rope of proper length and tensility coiled at his feet.

Crackdown and Banjo Kazooie are both very cheap and very fun, and both aren't First Person Shooters. Mass Effect is also another good, non-FPS game.

I've played through mass effect.  I'm wondering how you're not classifying it as FPS (not that I didn't love it)  ok... well... third person shooter.  But as I said I was hoping for something breaking that formula a little.

Oh... and I'm playing through Braid now.

First Person Shooter, but even then, Mass Effect is an RPG. If you don't like the "shooter" aspects of it, you can play a pure Bio or Tech class. If you want something that has NOTHING to do with shooting...

I'd again recommend Banjo Kazooie, Fable 2, and maybe Mirror's Edge.

EDIT: Actually, Cid's list just about covers it all.

Re: non-FPS on 360

I tried endwar about an hour ago- the free demo.  Either the mic on the headset sucks or I talk really quiet.  I don't like having to stick the microphone almost literally in my mouth hmm  I was looking forward to that one too.

Don't get me wrong Kenak, I love Mass Effect and I enjoy FPS, but I like variety too.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll check some of them out.  Long list, any favorites?

Re: non-FPS on 360

Many of the games have demos on XBL

Favorites:

GTA4 with the DLC -I can only suggest this game with the DLC. I didn't like the Nico story but never got far into it.
Ikaruga -XBLA $10
Street Fighter 4
Castle Crashers -XBLA $15
Castlevania SotN -XBLA $10
Fable 2
Geometry Wars 2 -XBLA $10
Ninja Gaiden 2 (I like Ninja Gaiden Black better which is downloadable on Live from Xbox Originals but 2 was good) Stores $20
Braid -XBLA $15
Peggle -XBLA $10
Burnout Paradise and Revenge: Both are great. Revenge is quicker to get into and is more direct with a menu driven gameplay. Paradise is an open world environment with objectives besides the races. Paradise keeps getting updates although it has been out for quite some time and it's publisher is *gasp!* EA.

Unfortunately, 360 is riddled with many FPS games. But that's because it's sold so well and devs/pubs know it's demographic. US-Europe 14-30 years old sports/racing/shooters. But the library of RPGs is slowly growing. Some solid ones too from what I hear. I haven't played a RPG on the 360 yet.

The mic might suck. EndWar didn't have that problem with me. I think there is a sensitivity option too on End War when calibrating the mic. I can be wrong. But I know that some mics are defective because I bought a mic  and it was defective where I had to deepthroat the mic to have it register anything. I took it back a day or two later but I'm glad I have no gag reflex.

The Simpsons game wasn't great, but considering you can get it here:

for 8 dollars, with free shipping...well it's something that you might wanna look into.
