Topic: Laptop Down

My laptop died a few months ago.  I haven't messed with it since.  I got thinking though; even though I know nothing about laptops, I could try to fix it.  What's the worst that can happen, my completely non-functional laptop will remain non-functional when I break it?

It will power up but the screen never comes on.  There aren't any sounds or lights flashing to suggest any processing is happening, so I doubt it's just the screen; it's possible I suppose.

Any suggested fixes before I pull this thing open?  Any suggestions once I do pull it open?

If Kevin Costner were a super hero, his super power would be the ability to always find a rope of proper length and tensility coiled at his feet.

Re: Laptop Down

My guess is battery is done. Just a guess though. I don't have much laptop experience. But I suppose it would work if you had the AC adapter plugged in.

Re: Laptop Down

power and no screen usually means bad things, though i'd assume that laptops would have beep codes like a desktop? no video is generally not a good thing.

but maybe you can hook it up to a monitor via the vga port to see? not sure if it's just that simple. not much of a laptop owner.

Re: Laptop Down

I tried hooking it up to a monitor and I got nothing.  I'm afraid the processor might have fried; the laptop always ran pretty hot.  Fortunately I was able to get the same processor for 20 bucks.  Once it arrives I'll find out if that's the problem.
