Topic: Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak

When Kanye released College Drop Out I played that cd out until I memorized a majority of the songs. Late Registration was pretty damn good also. Graduation was mixture of pop and hip hop, it had some good songs, but it didn't hit as hard as his first CD.

808s & Heartbreak is utter shit. It's a depressing mix of pop, shitty singing, and crappy lyrics. This should be Kanye's worst album. Hey he gets a free pass for experimenting with this pop and voice augmentation crap, but now its time to move back to your College Drop Out roots.

I'm hoping that his Fifth Studio Album will put him in touch with his hip hop roots.

I was never a fan of Kanye, but I have to say after seeing him live in Chicago, he's pretty fucking good (although I still don't listen to him).

i would love to see Kanye do something that isn't completely terrible again. i still think a lot of what he produces is good, but he's kind of an egotistical cry-baby. makes me wonder if he might just burn out and fade away. =[

and if i have to hear that Swagger Like Us song ever again i will have to punch babies.

Re: Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak

He keeps tending further and further towards pop which is a shame since he did a lot of good stuff with really non-poppy rappers. College Dropout was awesome, but he stopped really rapping and traded in the Talib Kweli features for T-Pain ones and that sucks.

I like this album.

Laugh hard it's a long way to the bank.

Telekinesis isn't what Kanye thinks it is.

uhh, dunno what you're talking about.. 808s is a really, really solid album.  not typical kanye, i like that he took his sound in a different direction.

you may not like it but there's absolutely no denying that it's got a pretty unique sound and is damn catchy.  and god, people who talk about his ego baffle me.  do you really think he's more egotistical than any other hip hop artist?

and also, going more towards pop?  i find this album harder to appreciate than his older stuff..

cause he's never had a meltdown or two at an awards show for not winning an award. (over meaningless awards)

really defending kanye is whatever, you can like him, but fuck defending the guy. you don't think those meltdowns are an inflated ego being shot down than i don't know what it is. it's an award, you are a millionaire with top selling records and you cry about awards.

no sir, no ego at all. my bad. and if you want to compare egos to some of these other hip-hop juggernaunts, at least most of them keep it cool and play the "game". how often do you see other hip-hop artists lose it over a fake ass award?

When I saw him live, he started off with something about how the great classics of their time are often shunned of the title until years later or something. Basically he was saying he was better than Jimmie Hendrix, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones.
