Topic: I dedicate this thread to the stupid group member(s) we all hate

Too long didnt read warning.

So I'm doing this 4 week long summer business program at Stanford. To complete the program we have to create a final presentation that incorporates major themes from our core curriculum. We dont get to pick our groups we are randomly assigned to teams. So after a long drawn out process i finally get my group members to agree on a meeting place and time. I tell everyone "Make sure you write up a proposal so we can brain storm at the meeting."

This ignorant girl, we'll name her becky, becky is your classic ditzy, stupid, self centered, spoiled, egotistical prick that we all hate in our group projects. So I propose we do our project on a relevant business issue that is new and isnt status quo. My idea was the economic impacts of california's water shortage. I was going to include the major themes of the curriculum (Economics, finance, strategy, marketing, and negotations).

Well Becky, a marketing major, thought it would be a good idea to create a presentation that was "edgy and flashy." She thought it would be a good idea if we "design hats and have people try them on in the class because it would be fun and interractive." And this is not to mention that where im studying is one of the top busines programs in america. In addition to that she proposed comparing the iphone to the palm pri, which is really cookie cutter and a stupid proposition because the pri is a "Me too" product. Anyways, she wanted to do the marketing aspects of the issue so she could use it as a experience on her resume. This wasnt even her idea, it was an idea from her sister who markets the pri.

Me and this other person in my group basically thought this idea was stupid, but Becky and frank, who are both marketing majors, think my water idea wouldn't cut it because "water shortages and economics have nothing to do with business." I proceeded to explain to them how this project would actually stand out and the marketing aspects of water, but they said "you know too much about this issue so it wouldnt be fair and this should be a democratic process," and "we need to make the project fun and yours is too serious for a business school."

So at that point I was about to strangle somoene. Not only did they not prepare a real topic, their projects had nothing to do with a business issue. So after that we meet again, at this point im about to explode because the sheer idiocy of those two is unimanginable.

At this meeting they say "Well lets try something different, lets do high speed rail, and then well talk about how marketing has made high speed rail a possibility." Im like well first of all lobbying made ia possibily and it had nothing to do with marketing at all. Frank, who is a little "lite in the loafers," an idiot, and somehow got into Dukes MBA program says "stop being condescending." At that point i was aboult to knock him out, so i thought to myself, you know what, this project is going to be a complete failure because they're proposing an issue that everyone knows the answer to, so I might as well enable them, let them present so they'll look like complete jackasses. I just gotta make sure my name isnt on it.

So anyways kids, don't get discouraged about having a low GMAT score or GRE, if these fools can get into the duke graduate school of business, you definitely have a spot in any PHD or MBA program in the country.

There are two ways to get into prestigious schools.  The path they chose was the "daddy has money" path.  So yeah no, it would be a little bit harder for most of us to get into Duke's graduate school. smile

If Kevin Costner were a super hero, his super power would be the ability to always find a rope of proper length and tensility coiled at his feet.

I usually cut them out of the loop, do it myself, and have them put their names on it. I just don't have the energy.

Put shrooms in their morning smoothies. They'll be tripping balls too hard to care what you do.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

they are a prereq to be considered for a lot of random corperate type stuff, since everyone has one.

dude I fucking hate group projects.  I also hate group presentations.  Combine the two and put it in German and ... I know what you're saying.

I think I got this idea from a Dilbert comic strip anyways.
