Topic: Optimizing a 25 inch HDMI monitor

So about a year or so ago I bought a 25 inch monitor; needless to say my system's performance decreased.  My rig is outdated and I'm now looking to upgrade motherboard/processor/videocard/Memory.

My main question here is:  what component of the video card is most important for supporting larger resolutions? I read somewhere an implication that higher RAM relates to higher resolution: true or not?

I'm looking at keeping the total purchase around 500 or less.  I've spent the last four hours doing research, and I think I'm coming to some decisions, but I thought I'd put my choice under scrutiny before I pulled the trigger.  Suggestions are welcome, either for more price efficient parts with similar performance or slight upgrades for relatively low cost.  here are the parts I'm currently looking at:

Mobo:

Processor and Memory combo:

Video Card:

EDIT::: I should add that this rig would mostly be used for playing Aion; while the game isn't particularly graphics intensive, i'd love to set up a computer that could play it on max settings smoothly even in high demand environments.  I don'y know if this is possible on my budget.

If Kevin Costner were a super hero, his super power would be the ability to always find a rope of proper length and tensility coiled at his feet.

Re: Optimizing a 25 inch HDMI monitor

You're going to stuff all that in to your monitor to optimize it!?!

(Yeah looks fine)

Re: Optimizing a 25 inch HDMI monitor

Video RAM is only needed to a certain point. Another large factor in supporting high resolutions is just the CPU speed and the number of pipelines. Essentially, graphics bandwidth. In a given generation of cards, the lower cost ones generally just don't have the bandwidth to support the resolution you'd want, even if they have the same amount of ram. That's one of the reasons why the top echelon cards in a previous generation is usually a better choice than the lower end cards in the current generation.

What you chose looks good.

I'll throw in my 2 cents by saying that I will not buy another sapphire card, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either.

cool, thanks for the help.  I did some more research and decided to stick with GeForce probably, so http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814125290 that was what I was thinking.

SirioN got a Twin Frozr (with my recommendation) and it's fantastic.
