Topic: Help with my CD BURNEr

Well, I don't know what happened. I don't really know anything...And I don't have drivers any thing..but here's what I know..

CD-Burner - LITE-ON LTR-48246S

I went under it's properties, and under autoplay, I set it to BLANK, and apply, and it keeps setting back. Also, under recording, it's all set up good. When I try to burn under roxio, it says "no recording device detected" or something. It's always worked though...And it's not roxio b/c i intalled and got newest version. Also, I looked under disc drive properties, and it says "E: IN USE BY <NULL>" or something.

Under it's properties:
All Disc Drives:

Quantum fireball - disc drive (correct)
floppy disc drive - floppy disc drive (correct)
pioneer dvd-rom dvd-115 - dvd/cd-rom drive (correct)
LITE-ON LTR-48246S - DVD/CD-ROM DRIVE (INCORRECT)

What's wrong? Tell me something besides reinstalling it or something.

This is not necessarily incorrect.  CD burners are CD-ROM drives, are they not?  They're just a specialized type.

If you haven't tried simply rebooting, do that.

Otherwise, we'll need more information about your system.

Reinstalling your drive is not really a bad thing to try.  It takes a few mouse clicks and a reboot, and that's it.  I'm not sure why you'd be so adverse to that suggestion, but I'll go ahead and not make it.

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

Oh ok, well I was just guessing. I would think it would say CD-BURNER or something.

I've rebooted a LOT.

Reinstalling? Well, I can't find any drivers. Wouldn't I need them?

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

CD burners don't really take model-specific drivers.

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

Well, I'll reinstall then.

(rebooting now)

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

Well, I u ninstalled..Rebooted..And it's STILL THERE.

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

Okay, so in that case it may be that your drive is in fact marked as "in use" by some (possibly malicious, possibly buggy) program.  Run hijackthis (I can't remember the link, but it's somewhere in the sticky thread) and post the log here, and I'll see if I can find anything that needs to be purged from your computer.

Close down essentially everything on your computer (especially all IE windows) and tell hjt to "fix" the entries listed above.  Have it do its thing, then reboot.

I don't see anything there that really should affect a CD burner -- most of it should slow down web browsing, send your information back to some unscrupulous third party, etc.  Regardless, give it a shot.

If (and when) that doesn't fix the problem, please post the exact text of the error message you mentioned in the first post.

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

Here is some advice from the Roxio tech support forums.

RE: Drive in use by Null

Author: jrensink78

try cleaning out the extra stuff in your filters.

go into the registry (click start, run, type regedit, hit ok)

browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\class and highlight the folder that starts {4D36E965-E325....}

look at the lowerfilters value. it shoud only say "Cdr4_XP"

most likely it has more stuff in addition to that. right click on lowerfilters and choose modify. get rid of the extra entries so it just has Cdr4_XP listed, hit ok

then look at the upperfilters. that should have both pwd_2k and Cdralw2k. if it has any others, modify it and get rid of the extra stuff.

it should end up w/ lowerfilters=Cdr4_XP and upperfilters=pwd_2k Cdralw2k (the values for the upper filters can be swapped, doesn't matter which comes before the other)

then exit out, reboot and see if the problem's gone

if not, just go back, delete both the upperfilters and lowerfilters values, then uninstall and reinstall easy cd creator.

Re: Help with my CD BURNEr

Well now it says CreatorAPI Can't see all the cd-roms in the system. please make sure they are connected properly.

I deleteed those values, then installed and uninstalled.

So what should i do now?

Woudln't it be easier if you talked to me on AOL or something? ;P
