I, too, am very disappointed with the fact that Protoss seems to have left the colour "gold" off their units. Simple detail, which, to me is such a large feature and trademark of the Protoss.
As of now I am hoping that the Protoss player was simply "player blue", seeing how there was small more "neon blue" parts on the Tempest ship. And add to that: the Terrans were very red.
This gives me hope that the demo was simply shown by a "blue" protoss player.
God dammit, WC3 should never have introduced low unit caps and heroes. How can it be a sequel if you change game mechanics on such a fundamental level. Hell, they even scrapped an entire resource.
I do not know what you mean by this. Seems like you have your facts wrong. According to the official Demo a player had a minimum of x/151 units (I presume they have 200 unit cap - as in the old SC). And the Demo also shows Minerals and Vespene Gas (Well.. we do not know that it is "Vespene", but does it matter?).
I guess that you haven't seen that video
But you can also tell a Gas Extractor in the first few seconds of the attack on the Terran Expansion on this video.
and a psyonic storm on the front. funny how the video has so little view count. Awesome find!
I believe that they are Tempest "Interceptors" (presuming they're using their old name still - which I doubt) with their Plasmashields triggering over the Marine/Reaper assualt - making it look like a Psionic Storm with their airel movement. I could not find anything that would look like a real psionic storm nor Templars (We were told that Templars would still be a part of the Protoss, so I do dare presume that they're still using that name).
@SirMagis:
You're being a tad dramatic IMO. They did not BARELY scrap an entire race. We still have "Dragoons", we still got Zealots ( a personal Hooray! @ that one \o/ ), something that resembles Carriers and Archons. Plus more expensive units and the awesome Plasmashield trademark. (Yeah I dare say that they are more expensive since Zealots are - according to the website - Tier 1, and they still rape Marines and Zerglings a like).
Gateways. Pylons. "Phase" Cannons. Yeah a lot of the old SC. I've mentioned about everything we've seen so far.
If you expected that Blizzard would wait 10 years with adding a sequal with just a 3D engine then I dare say you are pretty moronic.
It's a sequal, we have new lore, new units - that so far are according to the lore (let's hope it stay that way !) and modifications to old units that are also explained through lore. This is as I would've expected from a decent sequal!
Oh.. and we obviously got awesome new CGI cinematics - so stafu!
Protoss will still be a hard race to play... Despite all these changes.
Aye, Protoss was a hard micro-depending race. But with the upcoming changes (more units with more abilities - in which we've only seen a few of the other races) it would seem that Blizzard is aiming for giving that option to all of the races. Zerglings can now mutate into what the scenario requires (what happens if you only mutate 1?) : complete success or complete demolition. Zerg units are still at your disposal with complete abandon. Their trademark.
Got a bit off-topic there, was mostly directed at SirMagis (Zerg still having their trademark).
My point is. The Protoss still seems like a hard race to play but I believe (and what we've seen so far hasn't discouraged my beliefs) that the other races will be increasingly hard to play with much more micro than we are used to. Although in the end I am also convinced its still unit spam vs unit spam. Micro could count, but I'm willingly to bet that the more gateways and expansions you have - you will win, however (this will be new in SC2) ignoring the units of your opponent (despite having the more gateways etc) could loes you a game (one example could be Stalkers blinking past a battlefield and taking down an expansion unnoticed).
If you have any knowledge that I dont - please share it
As a finish I'd like to ask: does anyone know how the hell to control Phase Cannons? In the video it seemed like he "phased" all of the cannons at once and very immediately gave them individual instructions to materialize. I really love this new feature, but I hope that this was a triggered event, cause it looked like the work of a micro-artist!
and.
What the fuck is the point of a soulhunter? By the name - and the looks from the video - I'd like to believe it's stronger vs organic units (killing the soul instead of armor and flesh). So does it deal more damage to marines etc? Does it heal/recharge shield from attacking organic units? Does "Zerg" count as souls? They looked too effective against structures (despite their numbers still) to also be that effective against land units. If they own structures like that, they will also own mechanical units (presumption - wellfounded imo), so they own mechanical and could heal off organic (or otherwice just own). An all-owning land unit? Undo Soulhunters please. I'm expecting a big surprise from Blizzard soon ;P (through an update of their site!!)
