Topic: Merging accounts possible?

I was wondering if you techs out there had a procedure or script or tool of some sort that can be used to merge profiles.

I was hoping to get things like my name and posts and inbox, etc, transferred over to this account. Yeah, I'm obviously doing it for the earlier registration date, but I think that's fair. It WAS me, after all.

Off the top of my head I would assume that it would only take a minute or two of writing a few relatively simple sql commands, unless I misunderstand the structure of the site entirely, which is why I ask, expecting that it isn't a gigantic favor. If it is, then no big deal, I understand.

We can certainly tie e.g. threads and forums to another account easily, but there are various data that overlap (such as your profile), and we also have quite a lot of data in many different tables tied to users. Each will require separate SQL, which is a lot of work for something that doesn't really achieve anything.

Vanity is a horrible thing.. My original account goes back to 2004 (16:09 Apr 09, 2004 to be exact), you don't see me moaning wink

Why not just ask them nicely to change the name and/or just the registration date of the Killgore account...?

I'm reasonably certain changing the registration date of the original account could make some things go angry.

Thanks for looking into it.. I dont want to give the impression that this is a super duper big deal for me.. was mostly hoping that a process was already in place. I admit it's purely a vanity thing. =P

So if it is a simple matter to change the name of an account, and its a simple matter to change the post count, would it be possible to change the name Brick -> Killgore9998 (or just Killgore if that would cause a uniqueness issue) and change the post count of Brick to match? Its alright if nothing gets transferred over, I guess.

Is changing the name something that I can do myself? I didnt see the option anywhere.

No. We can change your name but that's it.

Changing anything else like that might have unseen consequences down the line due to data inconsistencies, and we're simply not willing to do stuff like that. We might add a feature to do this in the future, but it's not just a sql statements.
