Are you able to change hair color as well?

Barbers aren't implemented yet.  I'm not aware of any new dances being added.

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

For those who are interested in Paladin changes in upcoming WotLK.
http://wowpaladin.org/ has some interesting info.

I am particularly thrilled reading this article:
http://wowpaladin.org/2008/07/24/recent … fications/

highlights of that article are...

1 Divine Strength now increases Strength by 3% per rank (up from 2%)
2 Vindication now only has 2 ranks with each rank reducing the afflicted player’s statistics by 10% for a total of 20% reduction (down 1 rank but up 5% in reduction)
3 Pursuit of Justice now only has 2 ranks for an 8/15% movement and mount speed increase. However, it now only provides 1/2% chance to not be hit by spells (down 1 rank but down 1% chance to be hit by spells)
4 Improved Blessing of Might now increases the effectiveness of your Blessing of Might by 10% per rank (up from 4% per rank)

happy happy

The only info I have right now is that a tab is added to your spellbook for inscription. It has six slots, arranged in a circle. Top two are edged with gold. Those are for greater inscriptions, and the other four are for lessers.  I'll get a screenshot of the page later if Bill doesn't have time. He probably has more information, as well.

Click the magnifying glass at top-right.

Aha, that helps greatly. From what I've seen from various other sources, a lot of my gear (well, tanking stuff at least) will last me until the late 70s at least. I like how the gearing is looking so far, actually. The quest rewards will be good for undergeared people to allow for a nice transition, but people who already have a stable of good gear don't seem to be getting screwed.

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

Thanks for the info vis and the links pneoxian

I guess what I'm interested in knowing now is how playing a deathknight feels.. bill mentioned it is similar to a rogue in the way that runes refresh.. and I know the deathknight is melee dps or tanking.. so right now I have the impression that it's like a slightly weaker warrior with fast rage generation, which uses spell effects like a paladin instead of conan the barbarian type supermoves. Instead of charge they have death grip, and so forth. Does the pet aspect come into play in combat at all?

Well knows he who uses to consider, that our faith and knowledge thrives by exercise, as well as our limbs and complexion. Truth is compared in Scripture to a streaming fountain; if her waters flow not in a perpetual progression, they sicken into a muddy pool of conformity and tradition. A man may be a heretic in the truth; and if he believe things only because his pastor says so, or the Assembly so determines, without knowing other reason, though his belief be true, yet the very truth he holds becomes his heresy.

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

From my limited experience, my unholy spec'd dk plays like a rogue crossed with a warlock. In plate.

The trees cater to different things, of course.

Re: pets - You get "Raise Dead" which summons a non-controllable ghoul. If you're spec'd unholy you get a talent that turns it into a real pet. What do you mean come into play? If you have a ghoul up, you have a ghoul up.

Also, I thought this was interesting -- a piece of truly cross-class loot.  Just about anyone could use it.

From wowwiki, also, it says there are two greater, two lesser, and two minor slots.

I mean, is it an important factor in a fight? Does it have abilities? Or does it just whack away at stuff? Is it kind of a gimmick (it kinda sounds like a gimmick) or a critical element to the deathknight's effectiveness in combat? I know you can heal it with death coil, but is that the extent of the synergy?

If you are not unholy, it is damage and adds another disease to your target (diseases are important). It's good to have up, but not crucial. The DPS is not bad either.
If you ARE unholy you get to control it manually, which adds the abilities it has which aren't autocast: a stun, a counterspell, and a self-destruct. Basically, more utility.

It's as useful as you want it to be. Corpse Dust is expensive, and you won't always have humanoid corpses around. You're not balanced around having a ghoul out, but it's nice when you do have one.

Warriors don't tank anyway, they are all DPS

They can have my job when they pry it from my cold, dead, fingers. At which point I'll be leveling a Death Knight to tank with.

Showing off the new (optional) dynamic shadows. There are 6 levels of detail available (5 and 6 are fairly intensive). They look great in motion:

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

Billmaan, have you run across many socketable items yet?

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

This may sound like a stupid question, but the mounts you get as a deathknight, are they epic or the slow 60% mounts?

None.  Literally none.

I've heard that there are two socketed quest rewards out there so far.  That's two across all zones.

The DK mount is 100% speed, and you get it almost immediately.

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

Kinda too bad how the pet bar overlaps the rune symbols like that, hopefully they'll change it.

From your impressions so far do you think they are trying to phase out so many socketable items, reserving them for level-capped people mainly, or haven't patched them in yet?

Everyone says they're reserving sockets for level 80 gear, because it sucks having to re-gem stuff as you replace it.

I don't really agree with that reasoning, but whatever.

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

Well I think being at a level of gear where almost everything has sockets on us has kind of spoiled us. There weren't THAT many socketable items going to 70, although there were certainly more than there are in WOTLK at this point. My only criticism is people with even decent gear aren't going to go with non-socket stuff for a loooooonggg time from the looks of it. I like that I will use my gear for a while but I will feel a bit guilty vendoring everything.

e: My hunter won't mind though!

Re: WotLK beta screenshots/info

Oh, that reminds me.  I ran across my first potential upgrade, a quest reward in Borean Tundra:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/1594/wowscrnshot072508175230ty1.jpg
Compare to [Worgen Claw Necklace] or [Shattered Sun Pendant of Might] or even [Brooch of Deftness].  The blue seems to have a higher item budget than any of them.

I'm not sure what level the quest was, but it was a 3-man group quest and I just barely failed to solo it as a 72 (probably could have done it if I'd trained the new frenzied regen...).  I'd imagine three 70s in quest greens could handle it.
