Topic: What do you do?

When something so unbelievable happens. Something worse than you'd ever thought possible?

I don't want to talk about me, or what's happening in my life at all, and I don't want anyone to ask about it..

I just want some advice on how to handle something that just can't be handled.

Re: What do you do?

A difficult question..

I think that you just hold on as tight as you can and take it one moment at a time.

I don't know. Strength is hard to find sometimes. Look for it in yourself, and if you can't find it there, stay as close to those you love, and those that love you, as you can.

Re: What do you do?

I went through something pretty difficult recently and I couldn't cope with it and have lead myself to even further problems.  If shit persists, I am considering seeking professional psychiatric advice.

I'll embellish.  A friend took his own life a few months ago and after it happened I tried to go from grief to just totally ignoring it and coming up with reasons why it happened.  I also have suffered from some sort of anxiety disorder and now it's grown to the point where I have trouble sleeping at times because my mind is just racing so quickly and things so bizarre are popping into my head.  The strangest mental images and thoughts pop into my head at the weirdest times.  Sad, violent, or just plain strange.  It's gotten to the point where I'm depressed from it and it hinders some aspects of my life.  My worst was probably about 2 months ago, I started to get better, and now I got a little worse and am at a plateau.  It's become fairly manageable but it still bothers the shit out of me.

You don't. You just do the best you can. And try to forgive everyone involved, including yourself.

Well knows he who uses to consider, that our faith and knowledge thrives by exercise, as well as our limbs and complexion. Truth is compared in Scripture to a streaming fountain; if her waters flow not in a perpetual progression, they sicken into a muddy pool of conformity and tradition. A man may be a heretic in the truth; and if he believe things only because his pastor says so, or the Assembly so determines, without knowing other reason, though his belief be true, yet the very truth he holds becomes his heresy.

Re: What do you do?

\think andrea and killgore have good advice although i'd add that sometimes it just takes time.

In those situations I've found myself laughing... in a situation i've been unable to control... I just laughed about it, even though it wasnt a laughing matter... (this is a serious repsonse, and I'm sure this isnt the reaction many people would have for such situations)

You persevere.

That usually works for me in difficult situations but this time I'm just hopeless as far as remedies.  Nothing traditional has worked for me.

Few things creep me out more than people who do that...
(Nothing personal, it just really really creeps me out)

I, naturally, would go for escapism. In any form, whether it's some MMORPG game, a batman movies marathon, or refusing to get out of your room until you finish that 5000-piece puzzle.
Because, you know, if it can't be handled, then the only option is to not handle it... no?

Re: What do you do?

Read. Read. And re-read.

Your favorite authors, they're your favorite authors for a reason. You agree with their ideas and words. I've read some of my favorite books 15 times or more
they've become a sanctuary. A home away from life and sometimes one that provides unintentional answers to questions. And if your not in to reading, play your favorite game or watch your favorite director's work. If you have friends handy, it's nice to talk. Not even about the problem you face but just shootin the shit with the homies is a good way to get your mind off the problem you face for a bit. I don't right now and I miss having people around to kill time with.

Sometimes problems can't be solved but only eroded and eaten away at by time. Other times solutions and answers come to you. I've found that when I get frustrated or ruined by something. I need to step way back and wait. Get in to some holding pattern and just chill the fuck out. I also put the ear buds in and walk. Walk until I can't stand anymore...until I can't focus on anything other than walking and the music.

I like what killgore said. Forgiving yourself is sometimes the hardest shit in the world to do but it's important. Somethin will click eventually.
