Eh, one thing after the other.  Longish story I will try to make quick.  First thing was that I originally went to pay via paypal last month on the 19th.  My bank doesn't like paypal, and I suspect they resisted letting paypal take the funds for it, and so it went on to my backup payment method that I never opted for, a credit card I didn't even know was on my paypal account with a much lower limit than what they were trying to charge it.  So I had to cancel that transaction.

So then I try to simply remove my credit card's information from my paypal account before I try again.....easier said than done.  I waited a few days and the transaction was still in my account stuck on "pending" even though I had cancelled it from Newegg's side.  Turns out you can't remove any payment info when you have a transaction in pending.  (go figure)  I called them and they said it should automatically stop in 3-5 business days and that there was nothing more they could do.  A week later I called back because it was still frozen.  Paypal says they will manually fix it within another 3 business days.  I wait 4 before I call back and they finally cancel the transaction for real this time the next day for me.

Except by then I had to make a small payment for something else that, although already completed, paypal claims will prevent me from removing my credit card info for yet another 3-5 business days.

Then I say OMFG FUCK IT and snail mail my check like I was in the ghetto or something.

Computer is supposed to come Tuesday.  I still haven't gotten my credit card info off of my PayPal account.

I'm looking to get a new GPU in the near future (w/in the month). Is the new 1GB 4850 still one of my best choices atm? Looking to spend asbolutely no more than $250, and preferably less (of course).

Looks to be ~$210 on Newegg from Sapphire, haven't really shopped around yet.

At $250 the 4870 is the best choice. After rebates you can get them at $230~ now. If having 1GB is really a big deal, then the only choice below $250 right now is the 4850.

Also Sapphire fucking sucks, don't buy from them ever.

I had read the opposite. What brands should I be looking at?

Also, how much of an improvement/what benefits does 1GB get me? I've read it's primarily helpful for higher resolutions?

More textures will require more RAM. Higher resolution textures will require more RAM. Higher resolution rendering will require more RAM. Anti-aliasing requires a large amount of RAM. Depends on your game, the requirement will be different. With 512MB of VRAM you should be able to do well with most resolutions and standard AA. I don't know what resolution you run at, but if you don't use 19x12 I'd just settle with 512MB for now. Your other option is the GTX 260 Core 216 which has a bit more RAM. But the 4870 has a performance/price advantage still.
