Topic: 11/13/08

wowhead.com is claiming that the release date for WotLK has been officially set for 11/13/08.  While there doesn't seem to be any official confirmation just yet, wowhead is a pretty reputable site and one that no doubt has connections inside Blizzard.  Expect an official announcement circa midnight PST.

Well knows he who uses to consider, that our faith and knowledge thrives by exercise, as well as our limbs and complexion. Truth is compared in Scripture to a streaming fountain; if her waters flow not in a perpetual progression, they sicken into a muddy pool of conformity and tradition. A man may be a heretic in the truth; and if he believe things only because his pastor says so, or the Assembly so determines, without knowing other reason, though his belief be true, yet the very truth he holds becomes his heresy.

Yes, a bad one. American standard ftw. Everyone else is wrong.

Re: 11/13/08

Every time I travel to eastern europe, which is fairly frequently, I get my date formats all screwed up. So whenever someone suggests that a numerical date is invalid, I always have to triple-check myself sad thus the joke was not funny.

Re: 11/13/08

It wouldn't surprise me, with the preload already for the "WOTLK patch" in BC already.

Re: 11/13/08

Great, exactly 4 days after the new semester starts... maybe it's time to take a semester off...
On another note, anyone know where one might pre-order a collector's edition in the EU area? (Assuming there's still some difference between US and EU versions, although I never noticed any actual difference in the game)

GameStop failed to give me my Rock Band 2 guitar yesterday. Can I write you an angry letter?

What's today? September 15th.  9/15.   Then you just add the year to the end.  If you write a letter, it'd be written as "September 15, 2008."   Our date format just matches that, therefore is consistent, if arbitrary   (I'm aware some places they write "15th September", but those places suck)

Let's start going MM:HH:SS in time then, since we usually say "22 minutes past 9" for 9:22.

really? I would say "9 twenty-two".

You can say it either way really, just like the date. Most of the time I tend to hear "15th of September" more then September 15th, and MM:DD:YYYY makes no sense, we're going Medium => Short => Long. This log is 2cm, 4m and 22mm long.

15th of September.    Twenty-Two past nine.     They have qualifiers to show that the date order is reversed from convention.   Meanwhile the conventional way requires no qualifiers,  September 15th or 9:22.  Your justification still sucks.

The whole point of you ("you" being everywhere that's not the US) moving to a base-10 measurement system is so you could write 404.2 cm  or 4.042m, not some retarded combination of units with overlapping values.  You'd never write 2cm and 22mm rather than 4.2cm.   How this relates to dates being written in order of increasing unit size, I don't know.  Do you guys really write your entire date in order?   From what I can tell, you do  day/month/year hour:minute.   Shouldn't the time be before the date, and reversed so minutes are first?  huh?

Re: 11/13/08

Now that just wouldn't make any sense, Crast.

Re: 11/13/08

I have to throw my support for the metric system way of representing date, even though I am already used to the US system. It simply makes more sense, disregarding any of the other off topic logic. You write a date to be the most easily readable, and in the case of date, the day of month is usually more important than the month, followed by the month, and then the year. It also makes sense, as Dany pointed out, that a strictly ascending order of units is used instead of some arbitrary order of convenience or derivative of speech.

The rest of the comparison of this particular system to other measurements doesn't quite justify anything, as they are derivations developed separately and independently. If you are simply used to and therefore prefer a system, it is enough justification for saying it is better, since that's what it is for: a system that people feel most comfortable using. For the rest of the world, the US system isn't good; it simply is quirky and annoying and illogical - just like the metric system is to the US. This debate about what system is subjectively better is quite meaningless.

While I have no real problem with the system used in the rest of the world, I was just trying to justify that the US system is fine and similarly arbitrary, which is what dany had stated too.   I totally agree with your justification that the day is more important than the month and year, but I don't believe that necessarily correlates with ordering them by size.   For that note, the hour of the day is more important to people than the minutes, and they don't care about the seconds at all.  For most people they just want to know a general region of time, like "half past four on Thursday"  and aren't going to care if you tell them 4:30 when it's really 4:33 and 17 seconds, unless of course they needed to make a train or something.    Yet the importance of the time units are there inversely proportional to the scale.

Let it be on record that I agree with both Dany and Errrrrrrrrr and I just enjoy arguing on pointless topics.

I believe they sold out of collectors edition pre-orders in 2-3 days of them going up. That could just be the shop that I went to though.
