Topic: Floppy Disk Fails (80)

This issue doesn't really cause me "problems" but it's just annoying having to press F1 to continue every time I turn on my PC and want to enter Windows. Basically during startup, the message Floppy Disk Fails (80) shows up and waits for me to press F1 to continue startup. The werid thing here is i don't have a floppy drive in the first place. I tried updating my BIOS to the latest version which didn't do anything and I also entered the bios startup options and removed the floppy drive from the sequence, and placed my hard drive as the main boot device. For some reason, my system refuses to boot without a floppy drive. Any ideas?

In the BIOS options, there should be one setting under start up options where you can choose to "halt on all errors" and "halt on only __ errors", or "halt on no errors". There should also be a "check floppy drive" option, which in your case should be disabled. Merely removing the floppy from boot sequence won't stop the BIOS from checking floppy drive errors.

Removing the floppy drive from the boot sequence may be separate from disabling it altogether. There might be a separate place in the BIOS to tell your system you have no floppy drive. Unfortunately the hardware on most MFM floppy drives is so old that BIOSes can't reliably detect they're there, they rely on you specifying they are. See if you can find another option to disable the 1.44 floppy disk.

I think I found it. Option was set to All Errors but keyboard. I changed that to All Errors but Diskette and it booted without any problems and didn't give me the error message. Thanks guys!
