Topic: Venezuela, communists and nekkid pix of Antonio Gramsci

Okay lies about the last bit... but I dare you guys to deliver.
Questionable taste in erotic material aside, I'm here to ask you guys for some sexy links. Basically so I have a film review to write for my sociology paper on colonization and decolonization / globalization, and I've chosen to review "The Revolution Will not be Televised", which is basically about a failed attempt at a coup which hoped to overthrow Chavez in... 2002 I think? Anyway, the last one of these I did for the paper was quite similar, but on Cuba, and I found a bunch of interesting documentaries and whatnot to reinforce all the usual academic sources. Basically I end up looking at a variety of viewpoints of the situation and discussing their merits (a Marxist stance, Radical / Left-Weberian, a 'safe' Liberal position (has faith in pluralism and competition) and a conservative one)... what I'm wondering is if you guys have any good bits of media about Venezuela and Chavez since his coming to power, or relevant bits of history prior to those events since my knowledge of Venezuela is pretty shite tbh, which is something I'm brushing up on now.
As reward for your valiant efforts, please find enclosed a picture I found (from someone in my extended Facebook family) of a DIY job at recreating one of our Kiwi Policemobiles with a limited student budget.

Back in community college I did a paper on the economy of Venezuela and Chavez's rise to power. The documentary "The revolution will not be televised" gives an account of his rise to power and the attempted coup. --->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u2MYqx5Qu8

I read "Hugo Chavez: Oil, Politics, and the Challenge to the U.S." the book is pretty lefty, but does a good job telling the story surrounding his government.

It's hard to find reliable info on Chavez, but the economist magazine has some good articles on his policies. Right now he's basically ruining the country with his socialist agenda. Inflation is up 140% from 2006, the government is running out of money, he's nationalizing the assets of foreign and domestic companies, and the poverty rate still remains high.

Yeah, the movie you mentioned was what my review was on, I also used 'Life and Debt' which was about IMF cock in developing countries as well as 'Chavez, Venezuela and the New Latin America' which was more of a personal interview with him.
It's all finished now but I know exactly what you mean... it's a socialist experiment (you could say the same for Cuba, except more emphasis on democratic elections) and accounts from both sides are ridiculously skewed. I ended up ranting about commercial media for a decent chunk of it hmm
