Topic: NO LAN

A sensitive topic to some, an angry change for many, what' s your take on no LAN in SC2?

Re: NO LAN

I don't care, and I assume there will be something similar within Battle.net 2.0.  I think its odd that people are crying about it this early without seeing battle.net 2.0 in action.

Re: NO LAN

Dissapointed for sure, since it means you need to have internet access on your LAN to play against other people for real. There's a minor discussion they're having that indicates they may just require you to login to battlenet before starting a LAN, but either way it's an annoying obstacle to playing it with real life folks. sad

While it might not be as much of a concern for many, the draconian ass data caps we have on all our internet plans means it'd be sucking up valuable (and relatively expensive) bandwidth sad

Re: NO LAN

Why is everyone going ape shit over this?

There will obviously be some method of playing games locally, lag free, with friends. And if it's not in there, you'll be damn sure Blizzard had a good reason, most likely to improve the overall product.

Re: NO LAN

I doubt there's a good reason for this other than a way to put in some sort of piracy protection so everyone in your LAN needs to have a separate copy of the game.

Re: NO LAN

Games on battle.net are just started through it, after that you connect directly between the players, which means you'll still get your nice lag free LAN games, you just have to start 'em through battle.net.

And you'll get the bonus of all the stats tracking and such.

<Bill_> but prencher, you were right

Re: NO LAN

This 'no LAN' issue for SC2 is most likely to prevent piracy.  I'm not for it or against it until I find out more details.  Hopefully Blizzard's Battle.net 2.0 will have interesting features to support their no LAN decision.
